Termination
The termination resistor matches the impedance of the transmission line (common value: 120 ?) to the impedance of a node. This way a signal will not be reflected at the end of the bus.
Termination resistors increase the load on the drivers, making termination an (often) necessary disadvantage. Termination may not be necessary for very low data rates and must only be installed at both ends of a bus.
